In Landed, ascent's printed video stills of Sarah Ciurysek’s video installation  in the Summer 2008 issue of ascent (#38, Sustainability). Now, for the first time on the Internet, watch and listen to the full video. 

As part of Sarah’s video installation, Laying Down, there are three video monitors showing her walking onscreen and laying down in her family’s fields in Northern Alberta.  The monitors’ speakers emit simple ambient sounds, revealing little about the fields, while through nearby headphones, her mother offers an explanation of the land’s history.

Sarah says, “The work is autobiographically based on my family’s changing relationship to our farm in Northern Alberta, particularly since my siblings and I have moved to cities”.  The ascent team asks, What keeps bringing her back to this land?  And how does she bring this inner connection to land back to the city?
